Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive and highly effective treatment that significantly boosts collagen and elastin production, resulting in improved skin texture and helping to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation. This leads to a more revitalized and youthful complexion. The procedure involves creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin with tiny needles, which stimulates the body's natural healing process and encourages the regeneration of healthy skin cells.

How does Microneedling work?

After consulting with you about your goals, we apply numbing cream to your skin and allow your skin 20-30 minutes to become fully numb. After numbing, we cleanse your skin, apply a glide (like PRP or Exosomes) and use our microneedling device to create micro puncture injuries to your skin. The process doesn’t hurt and we walk you through the entire process.

What does Microneedling help with?

Scars and Stretch Marks. The tiny needles employed in microneedling can effectively puncture and break up scar tissue while simultaneously stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. As the healing process occurs, both scars and stretch marks will noticeably look significantly less severe and more refined. For optimal results, a series of treatments is usually recommended, ensuring that the skin continues to improve over time.

Wrinkles. The creation of micro-injuries during the microneedling process significantly boosts collagen and elastin production, which is essential for tightening and rejuvenating the skin. This synergistic effect not only aids in reducing the appearance of existing wrinkles but also helps prevent the formation of future wrinkles, granting you a more youthful look.

Hyperpigmentation. Sun damage is often found in the basal layers, the deepest layer of the skin, and our advanced medical-grade microneedling device can effectively break up and address sun-damaged skin beneath the surface. While breaking down the damaged cells, the stimulated collagen production works to heal these cells, and the microneedling process allows medical-grade skincare products to penetrate deeper layers of the skin, effectively combating hyperpigmentation for a more even complexion.

Skin Texture and Health. As we age, our skin gets thinner and we lose collagen, which is crucial for maintaining plumpness and overall skin health. Microneedling directly aids in counteracting these effects through the body’s natural healing process. Remarkably, just one session can generate up to a year’s worth of lost collagen production, leading to revitalized and healthier skin.

Microneedling Essentials

  • Following a few simple guidelines will ensure a great appointment with great results.

Stay hydrated. Drink fluids before your appointment will help with skin texture and healing process.

Avoid alcohol and blood thinners (unless advised by your physician). These can increase your risk of bruising and bleeding.

Limit caffeine. This can encourage bruising and muscle spasms which can affect treatment.

Herpes or cold sores. If you have herpes simplex virus (HSV), causing tissue damage and activating your bodies immune response can cause a flare up. We can use prophylactic measures to ensure safe results.

Limit Skincare. Try to limit skincare actives like Vitamin C or any exfoliating serums. It's best to avoid tretinoin or retinol before treatment.

Pre-Treatment. If you have thin or dry skin, we can provide a week of hydrating treatment to help plump your skin for your appointment. This will yield better results and decrease healing downtime.

  • Day of your Treatment:

Immediately after your procedure, your skin may appear red and/or inflamed. This is normal and will subside.

It’s normal for your skin to still feel numb as you leave the clinic. Your skin may feel tingly as the numbing wears off.

As your skin heals, it’s important to do everything you can to avoid bacteria from contacting your skin and causing irritation. Wash your hands, towels, pillow cases, or anything that will come in contact with your skin. Do not touch, press, rub, or manipulate the treated area for 24 hours after your treatment

You may use cold packs for 20 minutes every 2 hours the day of treatment. Continue 20 minutes every 3-4 hours the day after treatment. Then discontinue icing.

Avoid Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Aleve (all non-steroidal and steroidal anti-inflammatory agents), Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids for 2 weeks prior to and 3 weeks after your  treatment. Remember, we are creating inflammation, to stimulate healing and tissue regeneration.

If you experience discomfort or pain, you may take Tylenol or other Acetaminophen products.

Do not wash treated area or shower for at least 12 hours after your treatment. Once you’re ready to cleanse your skin, only use gentle cleansers. You may also simply use warm water with no additives.

During this time, it’s important to avoid irritants such as retinol, vitamin C, or any exfoliation for at least 1 week.

Avoid vigorous exercise for 48 hours as sweat can cause skin irritation. For this reason, it’s advisable to avoid saunas, hot tubs or any steam treatments as well.

Be sure to drink plenty of water while you heal.

    Day 2-7:

Your skin may feel dry, textured and may start flaking. This is due to an increased turnover of skin cells. During this period, you may apply your regular skin moisturizer.

If possible, hold off from applying makeup for a few days. Tinted moisturizer is a great option.

You can slowly start re-introducting moisturizer after 24 hours after procedure.

    Day 7+:

Your skin should be healed with a smooth radiant appearance. During this time, you may slowly re-introduce your skincare regimen that involves retinols and actives.

    General tips:

Avoid direct sunlight, wear SPF 30+ and reapply every 2 hours.

Remember your skin is healing and everyone’s skin journey is different. Results may vary from patient to patient. Your body's function and overall health are reflected in your skin and results, so be patient. If you’r skin gets irritated  when you start introducing products, wait a few more days.

The number of treatments needed cannot always be accurately predicted, even under the best of circumstances. Normally, 1-3 treatments is recommended.
